Please click here 'How to measure for a Horseware Rug' to view a video on how to measure correctly for a Horseware turnout or see the guide below.  *Please note a soft measuring tape is the best tape to use when measuring for a Horseware rug.

Note: New Zealand & Euro sizes are measured from the top of the horse. Withers to tail. C-D
UK, USA & Australian sizes are measured at the bottom of the horse. From the centre of the chest to the rear.

The fit of your rug is extremely important to ensure the comfort of your horse and to prevent rubbing and rug slippage. As horses of the same height at the wither come in variety of shapes and sizes, it is useful to take certain measurements of your horse. Using a soft measuring tape, measure from (A) at the centre point of the chest, across the point of the shoulder and to the point (B) at the centre of the tail. When you have the measurement, remove 10cm (4inches) and choose your horse’s size from the table below. Bear in mind that every horse is different and that this table is a guide only. We have many different styles to suit all shapes and sizes.

Rug Weights

Horseware rugs come in a variety of weights. To make it easy, we’ve created this little temperature scale. It explains the weight available for each rug and is located under each product section.

A turnout rug acts as a waterproof insulator layer, helping to maintain condition in cold weather. However be aware that conditions may vary in a short time span. Always ensure your horse is comfortable at all times.

Micklem Measurement Guide:

Measure the distance from the bottom point of the protruding cheek bone on one side of the head to the bottom point of the protruding cheek bone on the other side of the head, going round the front of the head.

  • 27 - 29 cm (10.6 to 11.4 inches) = Small Horse
  • 29 - 31 cm (11.4 to 12.2 inches) = Standard Horse
  • 31 - 33 cm (12.2 inches to 13 inches) = Large Horse
